So, are you on your way to becoming a brilliant writer? Well, the journey is quite exciting and amazing as I have experienced being one. But along with great experience, joy, and happiness come great challenges. And these are challenges you can never avoid. All you can do is fight them and triumph over them to be better than you were yesterday.

Content writing as a career is becoming very popular now. Now, it has been proved that being a content writer can pay your bills as well.

In this article, I will be glad to guide you on how you can become a better writer and make the audience get lost in your words while you write. You might not be the best, but this informative guide will help you be a better one for sure.

Your Ultimate Path to Becoming a Brilliant Writer

To get your hands properly on the field, you will need to adopt a few elements and habits and need to follow some guidelines. But don’t worry, you need not search Google to find those ways as I have brought all of them for you here, all at once!

1. Write something daily

When I was a kid, my father used to take me with him on a morning walk daily. I didn’t want to wake up so early then but he told me to do it. When I used to ask him why he took me daily with him on the morning walk, he would say that it would help me later.

And guess what, I wake up quite early now and have more time to work than people who don’t wake up early. It helps me a lot! But how do I wake up so early? Because my father made me make it a habit. And once it’s a habit, it happens naturally!

Similarly, to be a better writer, you need to write daily, even 100 words, but daily. It’s well said, practice makes a man perfect. Just follow the line and write something daily.

Here are a few things you should do while writing daily-

  • Find your mistakes and correct them the next day
  • Write a bit more every day than you wrote yesterday
  • Read your writings after writing them thoroughly to get an idea of what it is conveying.

2. Read Every Day and Become a Brilliant Writer

One who cannot read cannot write! This is not just a saying, this is the ultimate truth. Every great writer is a great reader.

To be a better writer, you should read daily. Below are a few ways how reading daily can help you;

  • Reading books daily opens up your thinking and imagination
  • It helps you think more clearly
  • By reading books daily, you get aware of different types of perspectives and points of view that will help you understand your one.

There are a lot of ways reading books daily can help you. But it also becomes very important what kind of books you read to understand how you will write. Note that what you consume is what you create.

If you are reading comics, stories, and common books then your writing perspective will be the same. That is why reading academic journals and fiction is suggested. Because reading these types of things helps you clarify your thoughts in a much better way.

3. Be aware of who you are writing about to become a brilliant writer

It is always fine to be casual and friendly when you are with your friends or your family members. But suppose you are dealing with a tech-related company and you have to counter a very tough question. Would you take the risk to answer it in a too-friendly way?

Surely no!

Before you write what you are writing, remember who your audience is and how they want you to write. For example, I am writing this article for my writer friends in an easily communicative manner so they can relate to my words as I want them to. If I would be too professional here, I would sound like a teacher, which I don’t want to be right now.

4. Avoid using buzz words and filler phrases

The thing is crystal clear. The audience is not here to read your long, fluffy sentences that have nothing to do with the actual information they want.  If you want to make your readers feel engaged with you, be clear with your words. It is okay to engage your readers but only to an extent. Using too many irrelevant words or phrases makes your article uninformative that has, ultimately, no value.

5. Capitalize words where it is important to become a brilliant writer

This is one common mistake that I have seen most new writers make. They think that the value of words can only be increased by underlining them or by making them bold. But it does not always go that way.

Capitalizing your words is one of the most effective ways to convey their value. It might sound a bit old-school and I all have learned this in our childhood days. But what becomes hard is to choose which words to capitalize and which do not. For that, here are a few things you should consider:

  • Proper noun: If it’s a name of an authorized person, a city, a state, or of a thing, you can capitalize it. For example, you may have seen The Times written boldly on the top of the English newspaper.
  • Title case: You should capitalize the words that are used in the title case. For example, if you are starting a new book, an article, or even a new section, capitalizing it becomes very important. It distinguishes the words from the rest part of the draft and makes them attractive as well.

6. Exclamations are not always necessary

Exclamation marks are something I relied upon in my writing career in the early times, and that was way too much. I often use exclamation marks to show the heaviness or the importance of a sentence. But it becomes one of our vital errors of all time. Because they also dilute the meaning of the sentence sometimes. Instead of using them too frequently, you should focus on making your words clear using synonyms, antonyms, or other elements.
